Driving from Hartford, TN to Asheville, NC we chose a route that would take us straight thru the Greater Smoky Mountains.
We had the intention of picking up the Blue Ridge Parkway on the other side of the Smokies, but no luck, this time of year they shut that down to avoid clearing the ice and snow.
The Newfound Gap Road was "painfully beautiful" in Rob's words. It was bright sunshine with ethereal snowflakes blowing all around us. A couple days later Andrea informed us that the snow was blowing off the mountains (OF COURSE!)
Mom, this is for you. A picture of Rob and I.
