About 3 hours outside of Pittsburgh I realized that my parents were on my same trajectory and I offered to call my Couch Surfing host and see if they could surf there with me. I did, he did, and they did. It was tres cool. Jason was very accomodating and welcoming, giving up his bed for my parents to sleep in.
The number of houses/building made of brick in this neck of the woods is astounding!
Coca Cafe was delicious with a veg-friendly menu. Omelets, stuffed french toast and apple-cinnamon panninis were enjoyed all around.
Driving away from breakfast, Jason regaled us with the riot that ensued when the G-20 Summit came to Pittsburgh this past fall. Protestors galore, but cops put a stop to any interference very swiftly and sharply.
PPG has a headquarters downtown Pittsburgh. We were faced with fortresses of glass and even a disco dinosaur.
Jason is a biker/walker exclusively, so the driving directions Dad recieved as he chauffeured us around the city were spotty at best. But we were all happy to be there and pleased to have Jason's knowledge of the city, so the fact that we circled the same blocks three times looking for "the right" bridge to get us to the top
of Mount Washington was no problem.
We never, in fact, made it to Mount Washington Heights. But a nearby hill served the same purpose of looking out over the city.
Thanks Jason for hosting me and my parents and showing us around your fine city!
Oh, I just love seeing the pictures of you all together against the skyline! Thanks for the continued updates and I'm glad to hear that all worked out with Faulkner's brakes!
